Reviews
Wonderful experience in a luxurious hotel that is basically a historical building. The atmosphere is special and obliges one to calm down and enjoy the scenery, the vast domain of the hotel. Sirmione has a romantic vibe to it if you stay in Vila Cortine, sheltering you from the thousands and thousands of tourists that each year flood the old town. The rooms are spectacular, the lake is WOW and the fact that the hotel has its own pontoon is a big advantage that allows you to enjoy the splendid scenery. As far as food goes, breakfast is top notch and the bistro offers very well prepared local specialties also. I would not recommend the tasting menu, although it is interesting I think a la carte choices are better. Wines are excellent, the experience was all in all superb, we traveled for our matrimony celebration and it was lovely. What a hotel, what a lake - Bella Italia!!!
The hotel is old school, classy & grand. Very comfortable, good service and fantastic views. The grounds were exceptional and very relaxing to stroll through. All these are commendable.
However, the drive from the castle gate to the hotel was a nightmare. We arrived in Sirmione one mid Sunday afternoon in October. The narrow streets were packed with people like sardine treating the roads as a pedestrian zone. Yet you are expected to drive through this mass of people to get to the hotel. We received no warning from the hotel that we would have to negotiate this difficulty. It is amazing that we avoided hitting anyone, and there were many shouts from pedestrians who thought we shouldn't drive in their space. Although please note that we were checked at the castle gate as guests of Villa Cortine and specially waved through by the police no less! For drivers who are not used to these narrow streets packed with people, it really is an awful experience. Perhaps the locals treat this as an everyday experience? This alone would prohibit us from booking this hotel ever again if driving.
Avoid at all costs!
While the Italian hotel's aesthetics were undeniably breathtaking, my overall experience was marred by the disappointing, rude, and demeaning service. The grounds were impeccably maintained, creating a picturesque setting. The rooms were nothing short of incredible, offering a luxurious and comfortable retreat. Additionally, the culinary offerings were a highlight, with delicious and well-presented dishes enhancing our dining experience.
Unfortunately, the shining aspects of this establishment were overshadowed by the staff's and management’s demeanor. Despite booking two of their rooms, one of which was the most expensive rooms available, we were treated with an air of snobbery and disdain that left a sour taste. This became particularly evident when we planned to use the hotel as a venue for our wedding preparations and pre-wedding photos.
Having provided over a year's notice and received initial confirmation for some of our family and friends to join us the morning of the wedding, we were dismayed when, a week before the wedding, the staff began raising issues. A week before the wedding I was forced to scramble to find alternatives because the hotel went back on their promises to allow family and friends (bridesmaids and groomsmen) to get ready in the two most expensive rooms they suggested that we book a year prior. These rooms were recommended to us because we emphasized the need for spacious rooms that would fit our family and friends the morning of and that we proceeded to book without hesitation.
The week preceding the wedding, I kept receiving emails from management who kept reminding me that they were a “5 star hotel”. However, it was evident that the arrangements I made a year prior with a staff member were no longer up to par with their 5 star service.
It seemed as though our special occasion was an inconvenience rather than a celebrated event. Their attempts to restrict our loved ones from getting ready with us were met with frustration and confusion, considering the prior agreement.
The staff's behavior during this crucial time was nothing short of unprofessional. The treatment we received made us feel like unwanted guests, undermining the joyous occasion we had come to celebrate. Their dismissive attitude and attempts to portray us as "peasants" were not only uncalled for but deeply hurtful.
And after I had to compromise on arrangements, a mere week before the wedding, and when it was finally my wedding day, simple requests for water or a pen were met with horrific attitude, demeaning glares, and eye rolls by staff that was certainly not up to par with 5 star service, which the management of this hotel made sure to remind me of time and time again.
In hindsight, the beautiful surroundings and lavish accommodations could not compensate for the lackluster service and disrespectful treatment we experienced. It is disheartening when a venue with such potential falls short due to the behavior of its staff, tarnishing what should have been a joyous and memorable stay.
If you’re planning a trip to Sirmione and looking for truly a five star service hotel, please check out the Hotel Vinci. My family and friends who stayed there during the duration of my wedding (3 days) were treated like royalty, no request was too big or too small, even guests who stayed in other hotels were welcomed at Vinci by the incredible owner and treated with utmost respect and provided exceptional hospitality. No pompous attitudes or demeaning treatment here. We definitely wish we stayed there instead, as we were treated much better there as external guests than paying patrons at Villa Cortine.
5 Star well that depends . If you want your shower water to drain , try again . Bidet , only the cold water sir. If you expect a quiet spa on property it is not there .. you are sent down the road to the Roman bath with hundreds of other new friends. Issue with TV, no solution either.. clean slippers not necessarily…Grounds are very nice and food was very good. Restaurant/bar staff were lovely… needs attention to details and fix the plumbing.
This has to be one of the most beautiful hotels in one of the prettiest areas we have ever stayed. From the moment we pulled up to the gates to moment we left, everything about this place was perfect. The greeting when we arrived, above wonderful, the location exceptional, the grounds magnificent, the staff amazing the experience, second to none. Honestly if you visit Italy in your life you need to stay here. We spent 5 nights and it was no where near enough. The food was excellent, breakfast brilliant, staff went above and beyond and treated my 3 year son like a king, they were wonderful with him. we had a corner suite with terrace and i must have stood out on that terrace for hours just soaking up the view. Sirmione turned out to be a gem and was a 3 minute walk from the hotel. we are already planning out next Italian holiday for 2025 and we will be back here.
Excellent, old-school hotel - classic Italian elegance in a gorgeous setting on Sirmione. Lovely park and great service. Not the greatest lake access, and limited amenities (no spa or gym, although a nice pool and tennis court). Great service and good quality food. Bit if a harrowing drive to the hotel through the pedestrian paths of sirmione!
The nicest place I have ever stayed! Stunning in every possible way. Staff are great, particularly Alessio, Mimo & Aurelio.
Breathtaking grounds, very tranquil; an overall amazing place for a holiday.
Will be back again next year for sure! 5/5 but more like 100/100.
